Most of the expecting mothers spend their time in reading books about babies and their habits. But, does their knowledge match the reality?

BabyCenter conducted a survey on two thousand pregnant ladies to find out their knowledge regarding baby’s sleep, development in newborns, diaper changes, and few other things. And then, they asked the new mothers regarding what the reality is.

New Mothers revealed that they were prepared in some areas, but they still had few surprises. In this article, you will find out what they were ready for and what they were not:

Delivery Room Surprises

The very first surprise mothers do get is when they take the first look on their babies. In the study, it is revealed that 60% of mothers said how “squished” their infant looked. 28% of the mothers expected to get a real small baby while their baby was much bigger than their expectations.

Here is what a mother told about her baby:

“He was so smooth, fresh, and active. I didn’t expect.”

There is nothing wrong to expect long sleeping patterns, but mothers need to lower their expectations. 69% of pregnant women expected their babies to sleep 16 hours or more at night. But, when it comes to reality, their babies sleep an average of 14 hours each night.

71% of mothers said that lack of sleep is the hardest thing associated with a newborn. BUT! There is good news. Mothers expected to have four wakeup calls during night, but they actually got two or three, on average.

The study found that 70 percent of woman takes care of their babies alone. 25% of women take turns with their partner, while one percent of partners hire special nighttime caretakers.

New Challenges

When you get informed that you are about to have a baby, your life begin to change. When the baby born, mothers revealed that life kept on changing with every new day. Expecting mother does know that they are going to face changes and new challenges, but 50% mother didn’t expect such a lot of change in their daily routine. They were surprised by their new routine.

39% of the mothers shared that they never expected how much they feel tired and how their body has changed. 64% mothers said that “lack of time” for them is the most challenging part of parenting. 50% of the mothers revealed that having a baby is much harder as compared to what they expected.

Most of the mothers find it challenging to leave the house as they need to get their baby ready, pack the bags, get the food ready for baby, loading the things in the car and etc.

What are the benefits of a Newborn?

Obviously, you are going to feel some positive impacts, which you didn’t expect at all. No matter, how much you research and plan things about your baby, you just can’t imagine how it feels to hold a newborn. 34% percent of the women shared that they felt a strong connection with your baby immediately. 25% of the mothers told that the most surprising thing is watching their baby get old.

Sometimes, it is very encouraging to see a single smile of your baby. Having a baby means more responsibilities, which makes you more productive than ever. Also, various mothers revealed that they left drinking or smoking after having a baby, which is a great benefit. It is often seen that mothers become more cautious about their healthy after having a baby.

And, there are a lot of other things that comes with a newborn.
